Which Dog Are You Feeding?
“For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other so that you are not to do whatever you want.” Galatians 5:17
Have you ever heard of the phrase, “Starve the flesh and feed the spirit?” Some of the best ways to starve your spiritual life are to stop coming to church, quit praying, and neglect to read your Bible.
There was an old Native American who got saved. He went to his pastor and said, “Ever since I gave my heart to Christ, I have two dogs inside of me that fight and try to kill each other.” The pastor then asked, “Well, which dog is winning?” And the man replied, “The dog I feed the most wins the fight.”
If you starve the big dog of your carnal nature and feed the new nature with the Word of God, prayer, fasting, and worship, you will walk in victory.
It takes 500 degrees to make brass, 1,030 to make silver, and 1,400 to make gold. A “golden” Christian will experience high heat until all the scum rises to the top. The more you are heated, the more sin will emerge to the top to be removed. God will skim it off until He can see His own reflection in you. Each time you remove another impurity from the surface, you get closer to thinking, walking, talking, and living like Jesus.
Are you tired of your flesh “dog” winning the fight? Have you been losing the battle against the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life? Do you need victory against hatred or unforgiveness? Are you struggling with getting past a hurt or a wound? If so, pray this prayer today:
Lord, in the name of Jesus, I receive you as Jehovah Rapha, the Lord who heals me. I receive the mind of Christ, the spirit of Christ, and the heart of Christ. As I knock, deliverance from sin, forgiveness, and healing are being released. Lord, I praise you because I am an overcomer like my Savior Jesus.
