Never Settle!

“The Lord will make you the head, not the tail. If you pay attention to the commands of the Lord your God that I give you this day and carefully follow them, you will always be at the top, never at the bottom.” Deuteronomy 28:13

There is a story and a powerful piece of history that just might speak to where you are in your life right now. After the Holocaust, the Jewish people were scattered, broken, and displaced. It seemed impossible that they’d ever be united again. But God had other plans. He raised up a young man named David Ben-Gurion. He was just a teenager when he began dreaming of a restored Israel. He helped design the flag, wrote the national anthem, and stirred up hope in a people who had every reason to give up.

But the road to Jerusalem wasn’t easy. When the United Nations was deciding what land to give the Jewish people, there were two options: Plan A was the promised land. It was Israel and Jerusalem- the land God gave to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. But then came Plan B, which was Uganda. It was fertile and fruitful, but not the land of promise.

Even David’s own father, worn out and weary from years of pain, said, “Let’s just take Uganda. Let’s settle.” But the son said, “No. That’s not what God promised us.” David Ben-Gurion stood in front of world leaders and asked a bold question: “Would you trade London for Paris?” When a British leader said, “Absolutely not, London was ours from the beginning,” Ben-Gurion replied, “Jerusalem was ours when London was a swamp.” And on May 14, 1948, Israel was born again.

Are you settling for the Uganda Plan in your life?

Are you accepting less than what God promised because you're tired of waiting, worn out by the fight, or afraid you’re not enough?

Maybe it's a relationship, a career, or a calling. Whatever it is, if it’s not what God spoke to your heart, don’t trade it for something convenient. Don’t settle for safe when God promised sacred. Don’t give up your Jerusalem for Uganda. God’s Plan A may take faith. It may take time. It may feel impossible. But it’s yours. And it’s worth the wait, worth the battle, and worth the stand.

So today, lift your head. Remember the promises. Dig in your heels and declare, “I’m not settling. I’m pressing forward to my Jerusalem.” Because the God who brought Israel back from the ashes is the same God writing your story, and He doesn’t settle for Plan B.
