Something More

“Whoever climbs up by way of the water shaft and defeats the Jebusites… he shall be chief and captain.” 2 Samuel 5:8

Sometimes we get comfortable in places God never meant to be our final destination. That’s exactly what David could’ve done when he became king over Hebron. He had status, respect, and peace. But there was something more calling to him.

In 2 Samuel 5, David faced the Jebusites, who mocked him, saying, “Even the blind and the lame could keep you out.” But David didn’t let that stop him. He went after Jerusalem- a place that seemed unreachable, a city so fortified and intimidating that no one had ever taken it. Yet David knew he was supposed to have more than Hebron.

What’s amazing is this wasn’t a random choice for David. Years earlier, after slaying Goliath, he took the giant’s bloody head and ran 18 miles to the walls of Jerusalem. He didn’t have control of the city then. But he planted a vision. He was saying, “I may not own this yet, but I will. I’m claiming it in faith.”

Maybe there’s something in your life like that. A dream, a calling, a promise from God you haven’t seen fulfilled yet. It seems too hard, too distant. Maybe you’ve even made peace in “Hebron”- a place that’s good, but not God’s best. But deep down, something stirs within you and says, “This isn’t it. There’s more.” Don’t ignore that stirring. That’s God reminding you that you were made for more than survival.

You were made for great things.

Climb the mountain. Ignore the mockers. Remember what you claimed in faith long ago. Your Jerusalem is waiting.
