A Christmas Celebration

There are three keys to celebrating Christmas. They are each a reflection of the very thing God sent His Son to express to us: celebration, salvation, and restoration.

We celebrate the birth of Christ, Immanuel. Which means God is with us, He loves us, and He is for us! We rejoice because He loves us without reason, and sent His for our sake! We celebrate salvation—not just from sin and hell, but for good! To do good things, to achieve the plans God has for us. And finally we celebrate reconciliation. God Himself sent Jesus to reconcile us back to the Father and has given us the ministry of reconciliation. Through Christ, we have peace and forgiveness, and the ability to live in mended relationships, even if situations are awry.

Connection Point

“The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel,” which means, “God with us.” Matthew 1:23

Connection Questions

  1. Christmas is a celebration! What are ways you can keep Christ as the focus of your Christmas celebrations?
  2. Pastor Franklin says, “It’s not that we won’t go through the fire, but we won’t go through it alone.” How does it make you feel to know, no matter what you face, God will be with you?
  3. Think about your own story of salvation. Instead of what God saved you from, consider what He saved you for. Finish the following sentences in your own words:

      Because God saved me,

  1. now I am …
  2. now I can …
  3. now I have …
  4. now I want to …

4. Do you need to reconcile a relationship? What can you do to help bring peace to the situation?

God sent His Son as a baby, swaddled in His mother’s arms. The maker of the universe, the creator of life, came to be with us. He did not come to intimidate us. He came to save us. And we remember his birth this time of year, which brought us celebration, salvation and reconciliation. Together, these three keys embody all that is Christmas.
