Love Is A More Excellent Way
“One should be kind to a fainting friend, but you accuse me without any fear of the Almighty.” Job 6:14
Do you remember when you were a child and you would run around barefoot in your yard? There was probably a time when you stepped on a thorn or a rock, and your reaction was automatic. Your hand would reach down and show sympathy to your foot. You wouldn’t just look down at your foot in pain and say, “You dumb foot! Why did you allow yourself to get into this situation? You deserved what you got!” Your brain knows that your foot is a vital part of your body and that all the parts work together. Your hand’s natural reaction was to help the foot in its time of need.
Romans 12:4-5 tells us that we are all members of one body and that as the body of Christ, we are to show love and respect to one another. The hand cannot say, “I don’t need the foot.” When a brother or a sister falls into an ugly situation, we are not called to judge them and write them off. You have to reach down to where they are and show them mercy. You need to encourage them by sharing how you have struggled as well and be there to help them get back up. 1 Corinthians 13:1-2 says, “If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.” You don’t have anything if you don’t have love. God cares more about how much love is in your life.
Love is a weapon. God looked at a broken world that was held captive by Satan and said, “I know how to combat that!” You would think He would have looked into His arsenal of Heaven and pulled out a mighty weapon or suited up His angels and prepared them for battle, but He said, “My greatest weapon will be love.” “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son.” (John 3:16) Love was and continues to be God’s greatest weapon against the forces of darkness in this world. God uses love more than anything to reach people. Not programs, not sermons, not protests- He uses love.
When this world witnesses God’s people loving each other despite varying economic classes, races, and political beliefs, they will be drawn to Him. It will notice that something is making us different because we are loving in an extraordinary way. Everyone is included and cared for, even the ones that society has rejected. Love is a powerful thing. Love can change the world.
