The Priority of Peace (Part Two)
“For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?” Matthew 16:26 (NKJV)
There is no security in material things. You can buy the house, drive the car, and live the dream, but none of it can give you peace.
Real rest does not come from possessions. It comes from the presence of God.
Solomon had it all. He had fleets, gardens, pools, and wealth beyond imagination. The Bible says he was worth the equivalent of two trillion dollars. Yet every night, his bed was surrounded by sixty armed bodyguards. He was rich in gold but poor in peace.
You may think, “If I just had that one thing, I would feel secure.” “If my savings account had this amount of money, I would feel at peace.” But Jesus said a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of things. Solomon himself said it. “I have had it all, and without God, it is vanity.”
The problem was not the enemies outside of Solomon’s walls. The problem was within Solomon. He was the one running from God, carrying fear and anxiety into every place he traveled. He thought if he could not sleep at home, maybe he would find rest on the road. But peace does not come from a change of scenery. It comes from a change of heart. You cannot have the peace of God until you have peace with God. You will not find rest by trying harder or moving faster. You must stop running and surrender. It is not your environment that is stealing your peace. It is your spiritual condition. If you are honest, you know it. You are trying to quiet the voice of conviction, but it keeps waking you up.
You can be successful on the outside and broken on the inside. Peace poor. Spiritually bankrupt. Surrounded by people, but alone in your soul. But here is the truth. Jesus is not hiding from you. What you are looking for has been looking for you. He is the Prince of Peace. And when you seek Him first, He adds everything else you need. He gives you joy, strength, provision, and yes, rest. You do not need sixty soldiers. You need one Savior. The one who already won your peace at the cross.
Prayer: “Jesus, I am tired of running. I repent and turn back to you. Forgive me, cleanse me, and break the fear off my life. Fill me with your peace. You are all I need. Amen.”
