Believe You Can
“In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams.” Acts 2:17
Horace Rockum went to the President of The Michigan Savings Bank in 1903 and asked for advice about making an investment. He had heard of a new start-up business called “The Ford Motor Company,” and he was thinking about investing five thousand dollars. But the President of the Bank, who was a very trusted financial voice at that time, said to him, “The horse is here to stay; automobiles are just a novelty.” Rockum invested five thousand anyhow. Several years later, he sold it for twelve million dollars.
God wants His people to be dreamers. In order to make a difference in this world, you have to see beyond what is to what could be. There are five stages for every dream. The first is the “I thought” stage. Your dream first begins with a thought. This stage is when you start to wonder if it’s even possible that you could somehow achieve something. You wonder what it would be like if you could.
Second, there comes the “I caught it” stage. You begin to think about the possibilities, and suddenly, it becomes more than a thought. You start to research and read about the idea and contact a few people for more information. Next comes the “I bought it” stage. This stage is where the work comes in. Most people can dream, but few are willing to pay the price. Few are willing to come in early and stay late. They are not willing to get the education and go the extra mile. But dreams don’t automatically come true. They happen with blood, sweat, and tears.
Once you’ve bought into the dream, you will become willing to pay the price to see it through. Then comes the “I sought” phase. This phase is when you become sold out on the fact that you are going to go after the dream, no matter how many people have something negative to say. You have laser-sharp focus, and nothing is going to stop you.
The fifth stage is the “I got it” stage. If you stay determined and focused, one day, you will look around and be living your dream. A dream breaks you beyond your limitations and abilities. Remember, it all begins with a thought!
