Hold On to the Basket
“Therefore, brethren, stand fast and hold the traditions which you were taught.” 2 Thessalonians 2:15
You live in a world where people toss aside what once mattered. Convictions, worship, the Word, and things your parents and grandparents valued are now called outdated. But Jesus is looking for someone who’s still holding on.
That little boy with the lunch wasn’t the only one who started the day with food. Others likely brought something too, but the heat and the hours wore them down. By the time Jesus showed up, they had thrown away what was given to them. But that boy held on. Not because it made sense. Not because it was easy. But because someone, likely his mother, told him, “Keep it.”
He could have tossed the fish and bread like everyone else. It was greasy. It was hot. It probably smelled. But he chose to cherish what was given. And Jesus used it to bless a crowd and make a statement. The blessing is not in what you throw away. The blessing is in what you keep.
Now is not the time to get rid of your worship. Now is not the time to hide your prayer life. Now is not the time to trade Spirit-filled services for dry routines. When God blesses you with success, influence, education, it should only make your shout louder, not quieter.
Hold on to the power of the Holy Spirit. Hold on to prayer, to fasting, to generosity. Hold on to the Bible in your lap on the plane even when everyone else is pouring drinks and scrolling phones. Be bold. Be faithful. Be the one who kept the basket.
When you give Him everything - not just the convenient parts - He will multiply it. That boy could have kept one biscuit “just in case,” but miracles happen when you hold nothing back.
Jesus is still calling people to give their all.
Not some. All of your time. Your heart. Your past. Your future. Your worship.
Prayer: Jesus, help me hold on to what matters. I give you everything. Multiply what I surrender and make my life a blessing to others. In your name, Amen.
