The Blood, The Water, and The Name (Part Two)

“Then the priest shall command that one of the birds be killed in an earthen vessel over running water.” Leviticus 14:5 (NKJV)

You may not think much about baptism. Maybe you’ve heard about it, seen it done, or even experienced it yourself. But have you ever stopped to see the picture God painted through it all the way back in Leviticus?

When someone was healed from leprosy, a disease that symbolized sin and separation, God gave instructions for their cleansing. Two birds were required. One bird was sacrificed, its blood caught in a simple clay vessel. But there wasn’t enough blood from one little bird. So God made provision and said, “Add water.” Only when blood and water were mixed could the second bird, tied to cedarwood with scarlet thread, be dipped and released.

Do you see the connection? The first bird was innocent and had to die. The second one was bound to wood, a type of the cross, and then dipped into blood mixed with water. And then it was set free. That’s you. That’s what happens in baptism.

There may not have been enough blood in that bird, just like the human body only holds a limited amount of blood. But the blood of Jesus, when mixed with water and faith, becomes more than enough. More than symbolic. It becomes transformational.

So you might look at the water in the baptism pool and think, It’s just water. And it is, until you mix it with faith. Until you apply the name of Jesus. Until you go down in surrender and come up in resurrection. Then it becomes something supernatural.

That water in your church, your pool, your pond, even your bathtub, changes when your heart says, I believe. When your soul cries out, “Wash me. Free me. Make me new.” When you understand that this isn’t just about tradition, it’s about transformation.

The blood of Jesus is enough for you.

It’s enough for your past, your shame, your guilt, your brokenness. And it’s waiting to meet you in the water.

So don’t wait. Whether it’s a river or a bathtub, get baptized in the name of Jesus. The water is ready. The blood is enough. And your new life is only one step of obedience away.
