Armor check – Helmet of Salvation
And take the helmet of salvation . . .
-Ephesians 6:17
The purpose of a Roman soldier’s helmet, just like any soldier’s helmet, was to protect his head, another critical area that needed to be guarded from a fatal blow. The parallel of the soldier’s helmet in our spiritual armor is the helmet of salvation protects our heads, or our thought life from the blows of the enemy.
Too many Christians are tormented in their thought life. They believe they have committed some terrible sin that cannot be forgiven, and the enemy capitalizes on that. He comes into your head and whispers, “I know what you did. It’s unpardonable. God won’t forgive you.” Satan tries to keep you on a guilt trip.
Putting on the helmet of salvation means knowing that your salvation is absolutely secure and complete. Once you believe in Jesus Christ and repent, you are forgiven for your sin. When the enemy’s voice tells you that you don’t have eternal life or that you’re not forgiven, don’t listen to him because your mind is covered with the helmet of salvation.
Salvation never has been and never will be dependent upon performance. Salvation depends upon what Christ did for us. If you do not have the helmet, or assurance, of salvation, you will not have strong faith. Put on your helmet of salvation. If your helmet of salvation is loose or you aren’t certain of your salvation; then go back to God’s Word, get in His presence, and securely put on your helmet of salvation.
THINK ABOUT IT—
Think about the day you accepted Christ as your Lord and Savior. From that day, you became a new creation.
PRAYER FOR TODAY—
Heavenly Father,
I’m so grateful for salvation! I am a new creature in You. Give me the strength to reject the whispers of Satan and have confidence in my salvation. Amen.
