ABCs of demonic power

Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons.
-1Timothy 4:1

In Matthew, the disciples asked Jesus why they were unable to cast the evil spirit out of a child. Jesus answered, “This kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting” (Matt. 17:21). “This kind” would indicate that there are spirits with different ranks.

It is helpful to know a few of the general types of evil spirits mentioned in the Bible.

• Tormenting or vexing spirits are lower-ranking demons that come to oppose your mind and bring depression, fear, and excessive worry.
• Deceiving spirits pervert teachings, twist the Word of God, and lead people away from the faith in God 1 Tim. 4:1.
• Territorial spirits are higher-level principalities that try to control the culture of certain geographical areas.

As a born-again believer, you have been given authority over any demon that tries to torment your life. Your first response should be to take authority over it and rebuke it in the name of Jesus. Your second response should be to lift up praise to God because it will change the atmosphere and cause a shift in the spiritual realm. Put on worship music or verbally praise the Lord. Remember, atmosphere is everything!

THINK ABOUT IT—
Write out “praise phrases” that you can use to verbally praise the Lord and chase away the spirit of heaviness.

PRAYER FOR TODAY—
Heavenly Father,
Today, I just want to praise You. You are good and I know You are working all things together for my good. Thank You for loving me. Amen.
