The Remedy For Discouragement

“I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, From whence cometh my help.” Psalm 121:1

Some of you have been living with your head down for far too long. All you see is the problems of your present. You may feel like there’s no hope for a better future. In Zechariah 1, the Lord encourages Israel. The nation had been destroyed and in captivity for 70 years, so God sent Zechariah to bring them hope. He told the people, “The Lord will again comfort Zion…the horns have scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem so that no one can lift his head. But the carpenters are coming to terrify them...”

The horns represented powers coming to discourage and destroy God’s people. The enemy will try to use the same strategies against you today. He wants to divide marriages, families, and churches and ultimately bring us down to a defeated place. The enemy does not want you to look at your future with faith. He aims to keep you focused on your present circumstances. But God says, “Lift your eyes unto the hills.”

God wants you to know that you have a bright future for your life! If you have given your heart to Christ, it doesn’t matter how scattered your life and family are right now; lift up your head. God’s not going to let it end like this. He has a remedy for the discouragement and brokenness- getting the spirit of a carpenter.

God wants to raise you up with a carpenter’s spirit to start building back what the enemy has tried to destroy. It’s time to work on what you have been worried about. Begin to build a bridge to restore those broken relationships with your kids or your spouse. It’s much easier to point a finger than to pick up a hammer. You can point a finger at your husband, wife, or child or go to work rebuilding that relationship.

The Bible says that when Nehemiah was rebuilding the wall, every man, woman, and child took a tool in one hand and a sword in the other. You have to fight for your family and against every spirit that comes to divide. Build with one hand and fight with the other. If you have Jesus, you have the spirit of a carpenter living in you!
