Eagerly Awaiting
“For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now. Not only that, but we also who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body.” Romans 8:22-23
Everybody’s waiting for something. You go to the doctor’s office and you wait. You wait at stop lights. You wait for a baby to arrive. We spend our whole lives waiting but we are not the only ones waiting. The Bible says that all of creation is eagerly awaiting for the return of Jesus. Everything God made in the creation – the stars, moon, sun, earth, trees, plants, and flowers – they are anxiously, eagerly awaiting the moment that the trumpet sounds and our new bodies are given to us. We’ve got something to wait for. We’ve got something to look forward to. Something better than a sporting event, a job promotion, a new car, or a bigger house.
The Jewish rabbis teach that when the Messiah comes, even the dirt will glow. We’ve gotten used to ugliness but the curse of sin will one day be lifted. If these bodies are good for several years, can you imagine what our new and glorified bodies are going to be like?
Romans 8:23 said, “eagerly awaiting.” There’s a homesick feeling that’s supposed to be inside of all of us who are serving the true and living God. There’s supposed to be something that causes us to live everyday with anticipation for the return of Jesus.
That should be the state of the mind of every believer. We should ask ourselves everyday, “Am I ready for His coming? Am I eager for His coming? Am I yearning for His coming?” It could happen today. It needs to be on our mind all the time. We should live in such a way that we wouldn’t be ashamed if He came today.
