Stand in Front of the Bulldozer

"Do not fear them, for I am with you and will rescue you,” declares the Lord." Jeremiah 1:8 (NIV)

When the enemy attacks your family, you don’t ignore the damage. You don’t pretend it’s not there. You face it head-on. Your first job is to assess what’s broken, what’s hurt, and what needs healing. Then you stay involved. You supervise the repair, staying connected and committed. Finally, you make sure no further harm comes to that treasure, using every ounce of strength God gives you.

That’s what a family man does. That’s what a godly man does. There’s a story from World War II that captures this perfectly. Hitler didn’t respect churches or cathedrals. Unlike other armies, he’d place snipers in cathedral towers, forcing destruction just to drive people out. One chapel was mostly destroyed by a bomb, left with only one wall standing. That wall held priceless art and history.

A commanding officer wanted to bulldoze that last wall to build a military headquarters. But one of the soldiers, armed with presidential orders to preserve these priceless treasures, stood in front of the bulldozers and refused to let it be destroyed. The officer yelled, cursed, and ordered him away, but he stood firm. The bulldozers stopped. The treasure was saved. That’s what you’re called to do in your home.

When hell’s bulldozers come crashing down — when things look broken, messy, and hopeless — you run out in front of them and say, “Not my family. Not my treasure.”

Maybe what’s left feels like just a fragment of what used to be. Maybe the damage seems too great. But God specializes in miracles made from messes. When Nehemiah returned to Jerusalem, all he saw were burned stones and rubble. Yet with a sword in one hand and a hammer in the other, he rebuilt the walls right in the middle of the battle. You may not have it all together. Your family may feel shattered. But God can take what’s left and rebuild it into something glorious. So stand firm. Protect your treasure. Refuse to let the enemy have your home. Because it’s not about what you can do. It’s about what God can do through you.

Pray this little prayer today. “Lord, help me stand strong when my family faces attacks. Give me courage to protect, patience to repair, and faith to trust your restoration. I choose to guard my treasure for your glory. Amen.”
