Pass It On
“One generation shall praise Your works to another, and shall declare Your mighty acts.” Psalm 145:4 (NKJV)
You may not realize it now, but every day you are weaving something your children will one day wear. Not with thread and fabric, but with your words, your attitude, your example. You are handing down a garment, and whatever you wear is what your children will inherit.
It’s not enough to talk about faith. It’s not enough to say God is first. The garment that will remain is the one you actually wear. You can say prayer is powerful, that God’s Word matters, and that church is a priority, but if your life doesn’t reflect it, it won’t transfer. The garment of faith is not taught - it’s caught.
That’s why it matters that you wear the garment of praise. Isaiah 61:3 calls it “the garment of praise,” and it's something you must put on. Your kids need to see you praising God in the high moments, but even more in the hard ones. When trouble hits, when bills stack up, when doors don’t open, do they see you lift your hands and say, “God, I trust You anyway”? That’s the kind of worship that gets passed down.
Psalm 145:4 says one generation will praise Him to another. It’s not optional. It’s biblical. Praise is not a style or a Sunday show. It’s a family legacy. What’s playing in your home and in your car? What are your kids soaking in? Because whatever you wear, they will too.
Wear the garment of faith, like Timothy’s mother and grandmother did. Paul saw it: “The faith that dwelled in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice, I now see in you.” That faith was passed on not through perfect circumstances, but through consistent and unwavering trust in God. Not every home has a father, but every home can have faith. God fills in the gaps.
So wear your garment boldly. Wear it when it’s easy and when it’s not. Wear it when the kids are watching because they always are. Praise in front of them. Pray over them.
Let your faith be real and visible. You are not just parenting. You’re passing down garments. So wear them well.
