You Have a Future Self!

"Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ." Philippians 1:6

Have you ever noticed that when God gives you a great vision, your biggest obstacle is often yourself? When you imagine living out the dream God has for you, you tend to picture a more talented, godly, competent version of who you are right now. God’s vision is usually bigger than what you believe you're capable of, so much so that it's tempting to let your present self talk you out of becoming your future self.

But here’s the beauty of how God works: He sees the future. When God told Abram he would have descendants as numerous as the stars, Abram wasn’t that man yet. He looked in the mirror and saw an old man who had never been able to have children. But by the time God’s promise came to pass, Abram had become the kind of man who could carry that blessing.

Look at Jacob. When God first spoke over his life, Jacob’s name meant “liar, swindler, cheat, worm.” That was his present self. But his future self became “Israel,” meaning “Prince with God—one who has power and favor with men.” Jacob went from a worm to a prince because he trusted the process. And you must do the same.

You might not see it now. You might not believe you could become a college graduate, a leader, or a business owner. But God sees the future you. He knows what you're capable of if you keep moving forward. Don’t let your present self kill your future self.

If God’s vision feels too big, that’s not a sign to shrink back- it’s a promise that He’s growing you into someone even greater.
