How To Redeem Your Family Name (Part 2)
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” 2 Corinthians 5:17 (ESV)
Worship is never a little thing. It is the main thing, the center line that runs through your life. Jesus said, “Seek first the kingdom and everything else will find its place.” Money, houses, entertainment, all of it shrinks when you lift your eyes to the one who rescued you from the flames.
The sons of Korah understood this. Their psalm begins with a call and response, “Had it not been for the Lord.” They invite the whole nation to join the chant because gratitude refuses to stay quiet. This is the heart that God wants us to have. Never forget, had it not been for the Lord, drugs, the wreck, or the bullet could have ended your story. Angels held back justice and mercy gave you one more chance.
Worship is more than noise. It is a choice to break cycles. Bitterness once swallowed Korah, and his attitude infected friends and family. You may have watched the same pattern in your world. A parent walked away from church, a friend mocked preachers, a coworker dripped cynicism, and the poison tried to seep into you. But the sons of Korah chose another way. Instead of following the bad example, they drew a boundary. They said. “We love you, Dad, but we will not join your complaint. We will carry the ark, we will guard our hearts, we will keep praise on our lips.”
Today, you stand at the same crossroads. Your family name may carry stories of addiction, anger, or shame, but the blood of Jesus writes a new headline.
You can start a different tradition in your family.
You can decide that when people hear your surname, they think of faith, grace, and overflowing joy. Your worship plants that seed in the soil of future generations.
Pray this prayer today. “Lord, I remember what You saved me from. I choose gratitude over grumbling, faith over fear, blessing over bitterness. Let my praise redeem my family name and point every listener toward You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
