Which Way?

“Then I proclaimed a fast there at the river of Ahava, that we might humble ourselves before our God, to seek from Him the right way for us and our little ones and all our possessions.” Ezra 8:21

Ezra was about to go back to Jerusalem after seventy years of Babylonian captivity, but before he started out on this treacherous journey, he said, “We can’t go into this new season without God.” So he stopped and proclaimed a fast right there at the river of Ahava. He told the people they needed to humble themselves and seek from God “the right way” or the right path. Fasting is humbling yourself. There’s no way around it. Through fasting God will show you the right way. You don’t have to be confused with questions like, Should I take this job? Should I marry him or should I marry that other one? Fasting will clear the clutter of your mind and your spiritual ears will become sharper.

The second part of the proclamation made by Ezra said “to seek from Him the right way for us…and our little ones.” Parents and Grandparents fast for your little ones! In an age where gender confusion and living together before marriage is considered normal, we need to pray for a shield of spiritual protection over our children! We need to pray that no weapon formed against them will prosper and that God will guide their steps. Ask God to keep them from “the bad company that corrupts good character” and lead them to “David and Jonathan” friendships that will keep them close to Him. Pray for them to have a love of the Word and to have the heart of a worshipper. Ask God to create in them a pure heart that loves Him and that will not be “conformed to the pattern of this world.” Pray that they would be transformed by the blood of Jesus and serve Him for all their lives.
