Be A Family Hero
“By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden three months by his parents…” Hebrews 11:23 (NKJV)
Moses’ parents, Amram and Jochebed, were remarkable family heroes. When Pharaoh decreed that all Hebrew baby boys be killed, they refused to give up their son. Instead, they hid him carefully, protecting his innocent ears, eyes, heart, and mind from the dangers of the world.
If you want to be a family hero, this is your call, too: hide your children—not forever, but during their formative years. Shelter them from harmful influences, impurity, and worldly distractions. Guard their developing minds and hearts. It’s not about being a best friend or easy-going parent; it’s about setting boundaries and keeping your children safe until they’re ready to face the world.
Moses’ mother didn’t just hide him; when she had to release him, she crafted a special basket made of bulrush—a material alligators avoid—and placed him on the river, trusting God’s protection. This basket was wrapped in her faith, prayers, example, and love, a spiritual covering that would guide Moses even when he was in a foreign system filled with false gods. That same faith shaped Moses to become the great leader who wrote the first five books of the Bible and declared, “Behold the Lord our God is one Lord.”
In South Africa, gazelles are able to protect their fawns because of a God-given distinction. The adult deer have marks of distinction on their ears, helping their babies know when danger is near. Even hidden in tall grass, these markings alert the young ones to lions approaching, saving their lives.
As parents, do you have marks of distinction?
Are your children seeing in you a genuine walk with God and a life of purity, faith, and integrity?
Are you living consistently, showing them what it means to follow Jesus both publicly and privately? These spiritual marks guide and protect the next generation, just like the markings on the deer’s ears protect their young. If you are a parent, pray today: “Lord, give me the strength and wisdom to protect and guide my family. Help me live with faith and be a godly example so my children will follow the right path. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
