The Spirit Of Negativism (Part 2)
"In your strength, I can crush an army; with my God, I can scale any wall." Psalms 18:29
Notice what God told Joshua and the spies before they left to investigate the promised land. Before they went in, God said, "Be of good courage." God never mentioned giants or walls because they weren't relevant to Him. But when the spies entered the land, that was all they saw. They didn't see opportunities; they saw obstacles. They didn't focus on the promises; they only focused on the problems.
If you are not careful, you can talk yourself out of a blessing before you ever get started. You can talk yourself out of getting in shape, meeting that special someone, or landing that dream job before you ever start trying. You can allow voices to tell you "You aren't smart enough or qualified enough to do this" or "You are not attractive or cool enough to meet someone." But God's voice is saying to you, "Be of good courage!" Courage is doing it scared. The task may look daunting initially, but decide to try it anyway. Resolve in your mind ahead of time that God is on your side so you have nothing to be afraid of. If it is His will, He will bring it to fruition. If you try something that doesn't work out, God has something better waiting. Don't live your life evaluating the ways you could fail. Just go for it! You have nothing to lose.
Maybe you are trying to go to the next level professionally, spiritually, or relationally. Perhaps you are reaching for a dream or a goal. It is never God's will for you to approach any situation with fear or negativism. If you hear voices of defeat, know that those words are not of God! When David approached the giant, the giant had lots to say. He said to David, "Am I a dog that you come at me with sticks? Come here and I'll give your flesh to the birds and the wild animals!" David's response was fearless. His response should be our response to any challenge that stands in the way of us reaching our God-ordained destiny. He replied, "You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day, the Lord will deliver you into my hands, and I'll strike you down and cut off your head. This very day, I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds and the wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel." (1 Samuel 17:45-46) God wants us to approach every challenge in life with faith and courage!
