Passing Down the Garment

“The holy garments of Aaron shall be his sons’ after him, to be anointed in them and to be consecrated in them.” Exodus 29:29 (NKJV)

There is a garment that doesn’t come from a store. It’s not stitched by human hands or made of fabric. This one is spiritual. And if you’re a parent, you’re wearing it whether you realize it or not.

God told Moses to take Aaron, the high priest, and clothe him in garments made specifically for the priesthood. These garments were not optional. They were a visible sign of a sacred calling. And when Aaron died, scripture says his garments were to be passed to his sons. Not just any garment—the garment. The one he had served in. The one he had sweat in. The one he had prayed and led the people in. That’s the one God said must be handed down.

God is still doing that today. But instead of ephods and sashes, your family’s garment might look like faithfulness, prayer, integrity, or love for the Word. You may not always feel like a priest, but if you belong to Jesus, 1 Peter 2:9 says you are part of a royal priesthood. That means your home isn’t just a place to eat and sleep, it’s a place of ministry.

And let’s be real, family can be hard. There’s mess, frustration, noise, fighting, and people who push your buttons. But there’s also a call. God hasn’t changed His mind about family. He still chooses families to carry His presence, and He still places anointing on the home.

What garment are you passing to your children? You won’t pass what you say. You’ll pass what you wear.

If they see you wearing patience, prayer, and purpose, they’ll grow up with that fabric wrapped around their own lives. But if all they see is Sunday-only religion, that’s all they’ll know to inherit.

Don’t try to be like every other family on the block. You weren’t called to blend in. You were called to stand out. You were called to be a priesthood family. A family that is marked, chosen, and anointed. So put on the garment. Live it. And pass it down. Pray today: “Father, help me wear the garment of faith daily. Let my life speak louder than my words. Anoint my family to be set apart for Your purpose, and let the legacy we pass down be one of true devotion to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
