Keep Climbing!

“Who may ascend the mountain of the Lord? Who may stand in his holy place?” Psalms 24:3

Psalms 24 says, “Who will ascend into the hill of the Lord or who may stand in His holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart who has not lifted up his soul an idol, nor sworn deceitfully. He shall receive the blessing from the Lord.” Notice that first verse, “Who will ascend into the hill of the Lord?” Life is an uphill climb. It is full of challenges and requires us to keep climbing, but God promises to those who keep going that they will receive a mighty blessing.

Moses climbed Mount Sinai. He didn’t climb it halfway. He went all the way to the top and God gave him the Ten Commandments once he got to the top. Elijah climbed Mount Carmel, prayed a 14-word prayer, and the fire of God fell. It didn’t happen down in the valley or halfway up the mountain. It happened on the mountaintop. You have to keep climbing to get God’s best. Peter, James, and John climbed the Mount of Transfiguration and saw God's glory on top of that mountain. They didn’t just arrive, they had to climb. You won’t just get to the top. You have to climb, and our journey is an uphill climb.

There are three kinds of people in life. Some people start climbing but quit. Then there are people who climb up to a certain point, camp out, and get comfortable and complacent. But then there’s a third elite group you should aspire to be a part of. These are the people who never stop going higher.

You’re either a quitter, a camper, or a climber. Quitters are crybabies. Quitters abandon the climb when things get tough. Quitters end up bitter and depressed because of what happened to them in life, and they’re a drag to be around. Quitters have excuses for depression, worry, and fear dominating their lives. They opt out, back out, and drop out of every great thing God has in their future. They quit climbing because it gets too hard. Climbers are wired differently. They do what it takes to go to the next level.

Life is an uphill climb, but the view up there is worth it.
