Flies In The Ointment (Part 3)

“In these lay a great multitude of sick people, blind, lame, paralyzed, waiting for the moving of the water. For an angel went down at a certain time into the pool and stirred up the water; then whoever stepped in first, after stirring the water, was made well of whatever disease he had.” John 5:3-4

Florida is known for having mosquitoes, but at Disney World, you will likely not notice any. They take calculated steps to ensure these parasites aren’t bothering their guests. One of their main strategies is ensuring there is no standing water anywhere. They make sure there is a current moving in all the bodies of water on their properties because mosquitoes are drawn and attracted to standing water. It’s the perfect place for them to deposit their eggs.

The Bible compares water to the Holy Spirit. Jesus said, “Out of your belly shall flow a river of living water.” If you ever visit these resorts, you will see rivers, waterworks, and water fountains, but you will never see stagnant water. In the same way, the river of God has to always be flowing, or you will begin to attract that which wants to lift and remove the blood of Jesus from your life. Many Christians have become stagnant in their walk with Jesus, and that’s where sin begins to breed, reproduce, and take over.

The best way we can make sure we’re not breeding ground for the eggs of the enemy to be implanted into our family, home, and life is to experience a personal move of the spirit. It’s not about just coming to church and hearing a talk. Something has to happen to you. You can’t outwardly become a Christian who says, “Yes, I go to church, and I believe in God and all that.” You have to have a stirring in your soul. You have to be moved by His love for you.

When the Word of God is preached, something starts moving, and it’s up to you to respond. The four lepers in 2 Kings said, “Why sit we here until we die?” Acts 17 says, “In Him we live, we move, and we have our being.”  We move between where we live and where we have our being. How long has it been since you were moved with compassion or by a hunger for the presence of God? How long has it been since you shed tears of gratitude for all His grace has afforded you?

Just like flowing water keeps the mosquitoes away, sin can be held at bay by prayer, worship, and renewing your mind daily. You must also refuse to allow the move and conviction of God’s spirit to die in you. At the pool of the Bethesda, the Bible said there were sick people all around, and the water was still, and nothing was happening. But when the angel of the Lord came and stirred up the water, people began to jump in, and miracles of healing happened. Notice that the miracle was in the moving. When you go to church, and all you do is just sit there, you’re a still pool. If you need a fresh moving of the Holy Spirit, you need to move. You need to raise your hands in prayer and run to the altar to seek more of God. There is a revival coming to our churches. God is about to stir the waters. Will you jump in or be a spectator?
