A Powerful Prayer To Pray For This New Year

“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28

When praying for this upcoming new year, ask God to give you His perspective on your life. The proper perspective will take you places you never thought you could go. There was a man who worked in a factory, and every day, wood shavings would be left on the ground when the work was finished. The man would gather the shavings into a wheelbarrow and wheel them out. Each time, a security guard would ask him, “What is in the wheelbarrow?”  And he would say, “I’ve got some shavings from off of the floor. They’re just waste that I swept up because I need them for something at home.” The guards would check each time, and sure enough, there were only wood shavings inside the wheelbarrow. This went on for 25 days until, eventually, the security guards began to get suspicious. After investigating, it turned out the man was stealing wheelbarrows.

Did you know that you can get so distracted by the small things that you miss the big things? You can focus on the minor and miss the major. Perspective is so important. In 2 Kings 6, Elijah’s servant came running to tell Elijah they were surrounded by the Assyrians. The enemy was coming from every direction. The servant panicked, saying, “What are we going to do?” Elijah prayed, “God, open his eyes.” In other words, he prayed for God to change his perspective. The servant was looking at the opposition, but Elijah knew if God would open his spiritual eyes, he would see the big picture. And when God opened his eyes, he saw a band of angels coming down from the hills in chariots of fire. God already had the enemy surrounded and was about to deliver them into their hands.

You’re either looking at the enemy, or you’re looking at the angels. You’re either seeing the problem, or you’re focusing on the promises. One thing we need if we’re going to live a victorious, powerful life is the right perspective. You have to see what God sees. No matter what you’re going through, don’t get your eyes focused on your problem. God is working all things for your good. There’s a big picture to every trial, challenge, and adversity we go through. Pray every day: “God, show me the big picture. Help me to keep seeing the big perspective of what you see, not just the small temporary situation causing me to be fearful and worried. Decide this new year to see every challenge through the eyes of faith!
