Power Follows Passion (Part Two)
"Elijah was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months." James 5:17 (KJV)
When we read about the prophet Elijah, it can feel almost unbelievable. He prayed, and it didn’t rain for three and a half years. He raised a dead boy to life. He multiplied a little bread to feed one hundred priests. The Bible presents him as a man of extraordinary power, and yet the secret to his life is not hidden in genealogy, wealth, or position. In fact, we know almost nothing about his background. He is simply called Elijah the Tishbite.
The key to Elijah’s power is found in one phrase: “Elijah was a man of like passion.” Passion—intense, unwavering, heartfelt commitment—was the fuel behind his miracles. Power did not come to him because of who his parents were, or where he came from, or even how educated he was. Power came because God found passion in him.
Think about it. We often long for the power of Elijah, the power to heal, the power to multiply, the power to speak with authority over life and death. And God’s response is simple: “I want the passion of Elijah first.” Power follows passion. Wherever there is fervent faith, desperate prayer, and wholehearted dedication, you can see God’s mighty power.
Even in the New Testament, we see the same principle. Jesus, after His passion on the cross, showed Himself alive in resurrection power. The cross was His passion, and from that place of sacrifice and intensity, resurrection power followed. God’s principle is consistent across history: passion opens the door, and power walks through it.
This truth challenges us today. Are we willing to pursue God with passion? Are we ready to pray earnestly, serve faithfully, and live with intensity for His Kingdom? Power is not passive. It does not come to those who are lukewarm, distracted, or half-hearted. But to those who show passion, God’s power is promised.
Elijah reminds us that ordinary people can live extraordinary lives when they bring extraordinary passion. Your background does not limit your calling. Your past does not restrict your miracles. What matters is the fire in your heart, the intensity of your prayer, and the depth of your devotion. When God finds that passion, He will release His power.
Power follows passion. The question is: are you passionate enough for God to show His power through your life?
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I thank You for the example of Elijah and for the reminder that Your power flows where passion is alive. Ignite a fire in my heart, Lord, that cannot be quenched. Help me to pray with intensity, serve with devotion, and pursue Your Kingdom with wholehearted commitment. Remove any lukewarmness, distractions, or fear that hold me back. Lord, I want Your power to be evident in my life, in my home, and in my work. Fill me with the passion that invites Your miraculous power to move. I surrender my heart, my hands, and my life to You, and I ask that You release Your supernatural power through me today and always. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
