The Power of God’s Grace (Part Three)

"The hand of the Lord is with those who build His house, and He will give you success" Zechariah 4:9 (NIV)

When Zerubbabel returned, the city and the temple lay in ruins. The nation had been leveled, and the task before him seemed impossible. Yet he declared, “I’m going to rebuild the temple. I’m going to rebuild the walls. I’m going to rebuild our life.” He didn’t start with his own house or personal comfort; he laid the foundation for the house of God. And the miracle began. God’s enabling grace was upon him.

But immediately, a mountain appeared—a spiritual mountain representing every obstacle and opposition in his path. Mountains are intimidating. They seem immovable. Yet Zerubbabel didn’t shrink back. He talked to the mountain, identifying it, naming it, and declaring God’s authority over it. Mark 11 reminds us: whosoever says to a mountain, “Be removed,” and believes in God’s power, will see it happen. The mountain in your life—your debt, your health, your broken relationships, your stalled dream—can be moved when you speak to it in faith.

The enemy was active on every side. The people of the land opposed him, filing lawsuits, claiming squatters’ rights. Even half-hearted helpers questioned his vision, comparing it to the glory days and sowing doubt. Zerubbabel faced outside opposition and inside discouragement, yet he did not give up.

How often do we quit too soon? How often do we abandon our dreams when the miracle is in progress but not yet visible? God never starts a work without the power to finish it. Sometimes you have to endure frustration, setbacks, and small beginnings, trusting that His timing is perfect. The voices inside, the doubts and fears, are often louder than the obstacles themselves. Yet God’s grace equips us to persevere and to stand faithfully, even when the world says it’s impossible.

Never forget that your mountain is not too high, your setback is not too long, and your obstacles are not too great. God has given you enabling grace to overcome, and there is a set time for every purpose. Hold on, speak to your mountain, and trust that the One who began the work in you will finish it.

Prayer: Lord, I thank You for the work You have begun in my life. Help me to stand faithfully when the mountain appears, to speak to it in faith, and to trust in Your enabling grace. Strengthen my hands and my heart to endure setbacks, discouragement, and opposition. Remind me that You never start a work You cannot finish, and help me to hold on until Your perfect timing brings victory. Turn my obstacles into smooth plains, Lord, and let Your glory shine through every challenge I face. In Jesus’ name, amen.
