A Different Spirit
"But because my servant Caleb has a different spirit and follows me wholeheartedly, I will bring him into the land he went to, and his descendants will inherit it." Numbers 14:24
Be selective about the kind of people you hang out with. If you're the smartest one in your group, you need a new group. Some people won't want you to level up. They may begrudge you for succeeding because they don't believe that they can. Get around people with a spirit like Caleb, who could not be discouraged. After scouting out the promised land, he returned with a different attitude than the other spies. He said, "We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it." (Numbers 13:30)
Shake loose from that negative spirit telling you, "I can't do it. I'm not good enough." You don't need people around you who will agree with you on your lowest day and tell you to just give up. People who are chronically negative don't need understanding and sympathy; they need correction. They need a friend to tell them to snap out of it and stop speaking defeat over their lives.
God is looking for His people to step up as leaders of faith. He wants you to have the spirit of a champion. Take it upon yourself to create a positive atmosphere in your home. Don't allow a negative spirit to get into your marriage. Encourage your kids to be grateful and remember God's blessings daily. At your workplace, don't get sucked into a negative funk. People may be backbiting, complaining, and gossiping, but you should be the one who refuses to find fault with anyone. Change the environment with positive words and a happy attitude.
Jesus once said, "I have come that they may have life and that they may have it more abundantly." (John 10:10). God wants you to live your life full of joy and anticipation. He doesn't want you walking around in fear and dread for the future. Don't allow Satan to steal what Jesus has already paid the price for you to have. If you have fallen into a pattern of negative thinking and speaking, turn to God and ask for His help. Pray, "Today I take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ." (2 Corinthians 10:5)
