Let The Fire Fall
“They asked each other, ‘Were not our hearts burning within us while He talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?’” Luke 24:32
In the Bible, fire is a symbol of God’s very presence. When Israel was in the wilderness, God led them by His presence manifested as a pillar of fire. When Pharaoh pursued the Israelites, the Bible says the pillar of fire blinded the Egyptian army. The army couldn’t see the fire, but the Israelites could see God’s presence. The people of God were directed and energized by the fire, but the enemy was baffled by it. We desperately need this fire of God in our lives today.
Have you allowed anything to replace your passion and power? Do you have God’s fire in your life? Maybe it’s time to fall on your knees and ask God to make you hungry for His fire again. Ask Him to free you from every weight and sin that is holding you back.
When we allow immorality and compromise, it’s a sign that we need a fire to fall in our hearts again. Paul addressed young Timothy, “Stir up the gift that is within you that was given through the laying on of my hands.” (2 Timothy 1:6) The literal Greek translation of that verse says, “Rekindle the fire that is within you!” The Amplified version says, “Stir up the gift and fan the flame and keep it burning!” The Lord sends the fire, but we have to keep it burning. Proverbs 26:20 says, “Where no wood is, there the fire goes out.” The fire will go out if you don’t learn how to keep the fireplace furnished! Keep wood on the fire, or it will die. You have to keep the fire fueled in order to keep the fire burning in your heart.
Make sure not to neglect the fire. 1 Thessalonians 5:19 says, “Quench not the Spirit.” So, how do we keep the fire of God? Notice that the fire always showed up in the altar. If you want the fire of God, you’ll find it at the altar. You’ll find it at the place of prayer. When the sacrifice of prayer is being laid on the altar, the fire will fall. Some of you have lost and left the place of prayer. Come back to it and watch the passion of God return to your life.
