Cry Out and Go a Little Further
“Then He saw them straining at rowing, for the wind was against them. Now about the fourth watch of the night He came to them, walking on the sea, and would have passed them by.” Mark 6:48 (NKJV)
Have you ever felt like Jesus was right there, yet He seemed distant? In Mark 6, the disciples were fighting for their lives in the middle of a storm. The wind howled, the waves crashed, and then came Jesus walking on the water. But the scripture says something surprising. He would have passed them by. That detail is easy to miss, but it reveals something powerful. Jesus was close enough to see them, yet He waited for their response.
It was only when the disciples cried out to Him with urgency that He turned, climbed into their boat, and calmed the storm. The miracle did not happen simply because He was near. It happened when they reached out in desperation and faith.
This is not the only time scripture shows us this truth. In Mark 10, Jesus entered Jericho. Imagine that, the Son of God walking through town. Yet no one called on Him, and no miracles are recorded there. He was present, but the people stayed silent. Contrast that with blind Bartimaeus, who refused to keep quiet. As Jesus passed by, Bartimaeus cried out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” The crowd tried to silence him, but he went further, shouting even louder. That cry stopped Jesus in His tracks, and healing came.
You can be near His presence and still miss His power. Jesus often waits for your response. He longs to see if you have the hunger and faith to go further than you usually do. It may only be a stone’s throw more, but that step of faith can make all the difference.
Are you in a storm right now? Do not let Him pass you by. Cry out to Him with urgency.
Press a little deeper in prayer. Reach a little further in worship.
Call on His name until the peace of His presence fills your heart.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, I do not want to miss You when You are near. Teach me to cry out in faith and to go further than I have before. Thank You for hearing me and for coming into the storms of my life. I trust You to calm the winds and carry me safely through. In Your name I pray, Amen.
