Armor check – Shoes of Peace
And having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace.
-Ephesians 6:15
Anyone who has ever fought in any kind of hand-to-hand combat knows that sure footing is extremely important.
In fighting with swords, as they did in the time of the Roman legions, losing your footing could mean death, so footgear was very important. In fighting face-to-face combat, their feet had to be solidly planted.
Just like a Roman soldier, in our Christian walk we need solid footing. If we are going to walk the walk of faith and resist Satan, we must have our feet shod with the gospel of peace. If we do not learn to depend on God for the promises of peace, then we will not have the sure footing to be able to stand against the blows of Satan. He will knock us off balance and have us on the ground before we know it.
Satan uses worry, anxiety, and fear to keep us off balance, but when Paul said a Christian’s feet should be shod with the gospel of peace, he was talking about combating worry and fear with the promises of God.
If you are worried about bills stacking up, the pressures of your business, your children, mounting problems in your marriage, look to the promises of God and claim them. Philippians 4:6 says, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God” (NIV).
When you get up in the morning, make sure you put on shoes that cover you with the peace of God no matter what storms you face.
THINK ABOUT IT—
Are you afraid? Claim this promise: “Do not fear, for I am with you. Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you. Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand” (Isa. 41:10, NAS).
PRAYER FOR TODAY—
Heavenly Father,
I face challenges and uncertainties today that could cause me to lose my footing of faith. Please give me peace no matter what lies ahead. I trust You. Amen.
