21 Seconds to Change Your World with Dr. Mark Rutland

Can you recite the Lord’s Prayer? Chances are you can. It’s one of the most well-known and beloved prayers from scripture. Once you gain understanding of the significance in its powerful verses, the 21 seconds it takes to pray this prayer will literally change your life.

Start now, and take a few seconds to say this prayer from Matthew 6:9-13 (KJV):

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen

This prayer makes six specific petitions, or requests, to God. Beginning and ending with a declaration of God’s infinite divinity, we are reminded of our finite being and ultimate dependency on Him.

One of the most powerful revelations I had from Dr. Rutland’s book, 21 Seconds To Change Your World, was understanding, “Thy will be done in earth” as a reference to us as His creation.

We are created from dirt—earth! And in praying God’s will be done in earth, we are essentially giving over our desires and dreams, and trusting God with our future.

I challenge you to pray the Lord’s Prayer again. This time, focusing on allowing God to establish His kingdom, His will and His plans for you in your life. How powerful this prayer becomes as we understand more and more the significance of each supplication!
