Get Right With Yourself

"Take heed that no one deceives you."  Matthew 24:4 (KJV)

Jesus and His disciples were walking near the temple, marveling at its grandeur. Herod had rebuilt it, and it was impressive with massive stones and intricate craftsmanship. The disciples wanted to show off the beauty of what man had built. But Jesus’ response was startling: “Not one stone will be left upon another; it shall all be thrown down.” Everything man builds without God is temporary. Even the most magnificent human effort will crumble in the light of eternity.

Later, on the Mount of Olives, the disciples asked Him, “When will these things happen? What will be the signs of your coming?” They wanted dates, signs, headlines—the latest intel. But Jesus answered not with the details they craved, but with the truth they needed. He gave them some essentials for living in the end times. And the first, and most critical, He said was: “Take heed to yourself.”

This is a powerful principle for us today. In a world filled with chaos, wars, rumors of wars, and deception, the most important thing isn’t tracking every headline or trying to predict the future. The priority is our heart. Our relationship with God. Are we living sincerely? Are we walking in obedience? Are we spending time in prayer, in the Word, and in personal worship, even when no one is watching?

Jesus’ warning to “take heed” means to examine, evaluate, and protect your own heart. In the midst of uncertainty and deception, your spiritual life cannot be neglected. It’s not about being perfect; it’s about being real, intentional, and responsive to God.

Take a moment today to check your heart. Ask yourself:

  • Am I living a life of personal holiness?
  • Am I spending time with God outside of church?
  • Am I guarding my mind and my speech from deception?
  • Am I genuinely loving, forgiving, and serving those around me?

The world may be shaking, structures may fall, and signs may alarm us, but your heart can remain steadfast. When the trumpet sounds, when God calls, will you be ready?

Get right with yourself today. Don’t wait for the world to give clarity. Don’t wait for the signs to tell you what matters most. Take heed of your heart, and make your relationship with Jesus your first priority. When your life is aligned with Him, no deception, no fear, and no distraction can shake your foundation.

Prayer: Lord, help me examine my heart today. Show me any areas where I’ve been distracted or deceived. Strengthen my faith, deepen my devotion, and help me walk in holiness and love. Keep my eyes fixed on You, and may my life honor You in every season. Amen.
