Dare To Be Different (Part 2)

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” Psalm 46:1 (KJV)

You’ve seen dysfunction. Maybe you were raised in it. You’ve watched the anger, the bitterness, the rebellion take over a home like wildfire. And maybe deep down, you’ve thought, “Why does my family carry so much pain while others seem to ride through life untouched?” If that’s you, you’re not alone, but you also don’t have to stay there.

Korah’s story is one of the most intense in Scripture. One man’s bitterness spread through his home, his companions, and eventually an entire congregation. His grumbling against Moses and rebellion against God led to devastating consequences. But here’s the miracle. In the middle of the judgment, in the ashes of everything falling apart, there’s a powerful phrase: “Notwithstanding, the sons of Korah died not.” (Numbers 26:11)

Why? Because they chose differently. They saw their father’s rage, they felt the tension, they lived in the bitterness, and they walked away from it. They didn’t follow him down into the pit. They separated themselves from the rebellion, from the pride, from the toxic tradition, and they said, “We want something else.” And God honored that choice.

Generations later, their names weren’t remembered for rebellion. They were remembered for worship. These sons wrote the Psalms we sing today, songs of longing, joy, reverence, and surrender. They could have carried shame, but they carried glory. They could have inherited anger, but they passed down worship. You can do the same. You don’t have to live in bitterness. You don’t have to carry the old traditions of addiction, rage, or brokenness. You can be the one who says, “It stops with me.”

Through Jesus, your legacy can be rewritten. Your children and your children’s children can inherit joy, worship, and purpose.

Be still inside. Let peace replace panic. And on the outside? Clap your hands. Shout with a voice of triumph. Worship like it’s your lifeline, because it is. You’re not just surviving your story. You’re redeeming your name. And it’s not a small thing - it’s everything.
