The Unseen Hand

"But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint." Isaiah 40:31

In this new year, make up your mind to pray before you proceed with any crucial decisions. Ask before you act. In Joshua 9, the Israelites formed a covenant with the Gibeonites without first consulting God. This rash decision ended up costing them many soldiers' lives. Failing to seek God's counsel during important decisions can cause you to say yes to things that will later create problems that you may have to deal with for a lifetime.

If you're trying to decide who to marry, you better consult the Lord. Parents, seek God to determine where your children should attend school and college. Pray before making a career change! Don't just use your intellectual judgment to make decisions. God knows what is best for you.

Isaiah 30:21 says, "Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying,' This is the way, walk in it whenever you turn to the right hand or whenever you turn to the left."

In Isaiah 42:16, God says, "I will bring the blind by a way they did not know; I will lead them in paths they have not known. I will make darkness light before them and crooked places straight. These things I will do for them and not forsake them."

Jesus said, "My sheep will know my voice." (John 10:4). In other words, if you seek His counsel, there will always be a voice behind you, in front of you, and inside you.

God already knows your solution. He already has a plan. His unseen hand will guide your life. How many problems could we avoid by simply seeking God before we act?

Sometimes, the greatest form of prayer is just silently sitting still and waiting for God's voice. Jesus told His disciples to go back to Jerusalem and wait for the promise of the Father once He was resurrected. The upper room in Acts 2 did not have a choir or a praise team. They just waited for ten days. During this time, not one recorded word was spoken. That time of waiting led to one of the most powerful outpourings of God's spirit in history and the birth of the early church! Waiting on God is never a waste of time.
