Stop chasing donkeys!

Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.
-Isaiah 43:18 NIV

In 1 Samuel, Saul’s father asked him to go with a servant to find some donkeys that had broken loose from their pen. They searched all day and night and could not find the donkeys.

They decided to go to the gates of the city to ask the prophet if he knew where the donkeys might be. Meanwhile, the Lord told the prophet Samuel he would meet the man anointed to be Israel’s first king at the gates. When he met Saul, the Holy Spirit confirmed he was the one.

Saul’s life is about to change forever. But he still had his mind on those lost donkeys. We can miss the plans God has for us because we’re busy chasing trivial things. Samuel told Saul, “Do not be anxious about them, for they have been found” (1 Sam. 9:20).

The enemy wants to keep you occupied with trivial things—donkey chasing—instead of God-chasing. Your “donkey” might be a person, a mistake, a temptation, a job. There are always donkeys that will pull you away from God’s will. If you allow them, they will rob you of your kingship. Don’t let your baggage keep you from God’s best.

THINK ABOUT IT—
What “donkeys” in your life are holding you back?

PRAYER FOR TODAY—
Heavenly Father,
I don’t want to miss the opportunities You have for me because I’m chasing “donkeys” – trivial things. I want to keep my focus on accomplishing your will. Amen.
