Living In Miracle Territory

“And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others.” 2 Corinthians 9:8

The feeding of the five thousand is the only miracle that is recorded in all four of the gospels. No other miracle is found in Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. There are different miracles that are seen in one or two of the gospels, but for some reason, God wanted this miracle of provision to be put in every one of the gospels.

God said it four times because He wants to establish the fact that you are living in miracle territory when you have a need that seems too big to supply. When it looks impossible or when there are “five thousand people and only five loaves and two fish,” you are in prime real estate to see God work a miracle.

The Bible says that there was a great need among the people. The people were hungry in a desert, and it didn’t look like getting food for this crowd was possible. The “desert” doesn’t always look like miracle territory. A desert doesn’t seem like the place where you would experience an overflow of provision, but you may be in miracle territory and don’t even know it. You may be in a “desert” financially or in a problem you can’t seem to find a solution for, but you serve a God who is willing and able to intervene in amazing ways.

When the disciples saw the situation, they spoke up and said, “Send the people away.” But Jesus said, “They need not depart.” The people had “outran Jesus to get there,” the Bible says. They were so hungry for spiritual food that they neglected to bring any physical food. These five thousand people were so hungry for the Word that they forgot about their natural hunger. Jesus saw their need for Him and wanted to bless them in a miraculous way.

If you don’t think you need God, He can’t give you a miracle. In the Old Testament, there’s a story about a woman who had the bill collectors coming. She didn’t have the money to pay them, and they were going to enslave her sons to pay the debt. But God gave her the instructions to “go out and borrow pots and vessels from her neighbors.”

He said, “Borrow not a few. Go get pots. Go get as many as you can get and bring them into the house.” When they started pouring, all they had was a little bit of oil in one container, but as long as there was a need and an empty vessel, God just kept supplying. And the Bible says, “When they ran out of vessels, the oil stopped.” Heaven does not run out of fullness; the earth runs out of emptiness. It’s dangerous when you’re so comfortable where you are that you think you don’t need Him.

No matter what you are going through today when God sees your need and faith in Him, you are in miracle territory.
