Lessons We Can Learn From Football (Part 3)
“Judge nothing before its time until the Lord comes.” 1 Corinthians 4:5 (NIV)
Sometimes, things aren’t what they appear to be. Take Samson, for example. You might picture him as a huge, muscle-bound superhero, like Arnold Schwarzenegger or The Rock. But the Bible doesn’t describe him that way. Samson wasn’t a flashy bodybuilder or a showman. He was an ordinary man chosen by God, given supernatural strength for a purpose. His power didn’t come from muscles or looks. It came from the Spirit of the Lord working through him.
That’s a powerful reminder that God doesn’t call the flashy or the strongest by worldly standards.
He calls ordinary people like you and me to do extraordinary things.
Maybe you feel weak or ordinary, like you don’t measure up. But God sees you differently. Your true strength isn’t your outward appearance. It’s the Spirit living inside you. When God’s power flows through you, you become mighty in ways the world can’t understand.
This ties right into the story of the man born blind in John 9. Jesus’ disciples immediately judged him, asking, “Did he or his parents sin?” But Jesus said, “Neither... but this happened so the works of God might be displayed in him.” Don’t judge people before their time. Sometimes what looks like failure, weakness, or sin is just a setup for God to show His power and mercy.
Just like in an NFL game where the coach throws a red challenge flag to stop the game and review a questionable play, you have a red flag to throw when Satan tries to deceive you or attack your family. Dip that flag in the blood of Jesus and challenge the lies of the enemy. Remember Isaiah 14, where Satan is called weak and fallen. He’s not as mighty as he pretends.
God’s strength works best in your weakness. Trust God’s timing. Don’t give up on yourself or others. Despite what it looks like, God has the final say.
Prayer: Lord, thank you for seeing me beyond my weaknesses and mistakes. Help me to trust your strength working through me, even when I feel ordinary or broken. Give me eyes to see others through your mercy and patience. Help me challenge the lies of the enemy with your truth. Keep me strong in your Spirit, moving forward in your plan. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
