Jesus At the Center

“The Lord be between you and me forever.” 1 Samuel 20:23 (NIV)

When you entered marriage, you did more than exchange vows. You stepped into a covenant made before God. Scripture reminds you that covenant is serious, sacred, and powerful. In Jeremiah, God speaks with urgency about promises made and promises broken. He refers to the ancient act of cutting a sacrifice and standing in the middle of it. This was not symbolic only. It was a declaration that covenant requires obedience, sacrifice, and reverence for God’s presence.

Marriage was never meant to be an arrangement of convenience. It was designed to be holy. God brought Adam his wife, and He still desires to stand at the center of every union. When marriage drifts from holiness, it loses its covering. God is loving and patient, but He is also clear. You cannot expect the fullness of His presence while ignoring His design. Obedience invites blessing. Alignment invites intimacy with Him.

Ecclesiastes reminds you that marriage is not a twofold cord but a threefold cord. You are not meant to do this alone with your spouse. God ties Himself into the bond. He strengthens what you cannot. He guards what you are tempted to neglect. When God is in the middle, love is sustained by grace, mercy, and forgiveness.

Guarding that middle ground matters. Scripture warns you to protect your heart, because bitterness can quietly poison your spirit. When pride hardens you, unity weakens. When unity weakens, the enemy looks for space to step in. He comes to steal, kill, and destroy, never to bless. You keep him out by protecting the Holy Spirit’s work in your marriage through humility and repentance.

Love is not sustained by emotion alone. Love is a choice you make daily. It is choosing forgiveness when offense feels justified. It is choosing obedience when culture offers easier paths. It is choosing to say again and again, Lord, be between us. When you keep God in the middle, you create a throne zone for your home. His presence brings healing, strength, and renewal. He still turns water into wine. He still meets couples who agree to walk in covenant. Where two are gathered in His name, He promises to be there, right in the midst.

Prayer: Lord, I invite You into the center of my marriage and my home. Help me honor the covenant I made before You. Guard my heart from bitterness and my spirit from pride. Teach me to choose holiness, unity, and forgiveness every day. Be between us, strengthen us, and dwell with us. I trust You to restore and sustain what You have joined together. Amen.
