Fear Makes Noise, Faith Makes Room
“Overhearing what they said, Jesus told him, ‘Don’t be afraid, just believe.’” Mark 5:36 (NIV)
There is a moment in Mark chapter five where the noise of fear fills a home. Jairus is a desperate father, a man who has done everything he knows to do. He falls at the feet of Jesus and pleads for his little girl. She is at the point of death. He says, “Jesus, if you will just come and lay your hands on her, she will live.” Jesus agrees, and hope rises with every step they take toward that home. Then an interruption comes when the woman with an issue of blood reaches out and touches His garment. A miracle happens, but the delay feels costly. In the meantime, another voice arrives from Jairus’s house. “Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the Teacher any longer?”
That is what fear sounds like. Final. Loud. Defeated.
But Jesus refuses to let fear have the last word. He turns to this broken father and says the words that still breathe life into us today. “Do not be afraid, only believe.”
Fear makes noise. Faith makes room.
When they arrive at the house, there is commotion everywhere. People are weeping loudly. Professional mourners have already filled the space with grief. Jesus walks into that moment and does something every believer needs to learn. He clears the room. He removes the voices that stir panic and invites only faith to stay. Peter, James, John, the mother, and the father. Just faith. No noise.
Then Jesus takes the girl by the hand and speaks life where death once sat. “Little girl, I say to you, arise.” She gets up and walks. And then Jesus says something tender and almost surprising. “Give her something to eat.” Jesus does not just resurrect. He cares for the living.
Maybe you are standing in a room right now that feels full of noise. The noise of fear. The noise of bad reports. The noise of worst-case scenarios. Jesus still steps in and reminds you that faith makes room for Him to move. You cannot always silence the world around you, but you can clear the room of what does not belong in your heart.
Today, choose to trust Him again. Make room for His voice. Make room for His presence. Make room for His power to breathe life into places that feel beyond hope.
Prayer: Jesus, thank you for making room for me. Teach me to push out fear and welcome faith. Speak life into every place that feels empty or defeated. Strengthen me, guide me, and help me walk with confidence in Your love. Amen.
