Don’t Sweat The Small Things

“A little yeast works through the whole batch of dough.” Galatians 5:9

The book of Esther tells us that Haman was a mighty man. He was second only to the king of Persia. One day, he was riding through the city, and everybody he passed bowed down and cried out, “Thou art a mighty man,” except one. His name was Mordecai. Mordecai was a God-fearing man. His mentality was, “There is a God, and you’re not Him, Haman, and I’m not bowing down to you. I only bow to Him. He is the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords, and I’m not conforming no matter what the other people are doing.” And he refused to bow.

And Haman, instead of seeing the 99.9% of the people supporting him, saw one distraction. Mordecai’s defiance consumed him. Many of us can have twenty friends at work, but we will fixate on the one person at our job who doesn’t like us. We may accomplish something great and have ten people compliment us, but we will fume over the one person who did not say anything. We can post something on social media and get 100 likes but be frustrated with the one person who wouldn’t watch our video. A great lesson is that if you don’t feed something, it will starve to death. Sometimes the best thing you can do with somebody who doesn’t like you is ignore them. Don’t give them attention. Don’t tell other people about them and don’t give their opinion glory. Just move on.

Haman became so obsessed with Mordecai that he concocted a plan to wipe out his entire race! His plan angered God greatly, and his life did not end well. His whole destiny was ruined because he was stuck on one issue! You could have so many great things happening in your life but are allowing one issue to steal your joy. Some of you have great marriages that you could really be enjoying but that one little thing drives you crazy. Don’t be distracted from a beautiful and powerful relationship with God and your family by little things that won’t even matter in the future.

Don’t be distracted by the small stuff. Some of you have incredible potential ahead of you, but one little fixation, one little obsession, or one little grudge can stall your destiny. These little distractions don’t matter in the light of God's great plan for you.
