Born to be a King

I once heard a story about the young son of a king who was taken from his family and confined to live in horrible conditions. He was exposed to every kind of immorality imaginable. Though he had grown up as royalty, his captors believed they could wear him down to the point where he would eventually destroy himself by giving in to sin, temptation and wickedness. But after months of being around so much corruption, the boy remained unbroken. When asked why he wouldn’t take part in any of the sin around him, he responded, “Because I was born to be a king.”

He understood where he came from and his purpose in life. He realized, even at a young age, that he was born for a throne, to rule and reign, to have authority — He was born to be a king.

If you’ve been born again and Jesus Christ is your Lord and Savior, you too were born to be a king. Peter wrote, “But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy” (1 Peter 2:9-10).

You need to fully understand the truth of who God’s Word says you are. When you do, it will empower you to walk away from things designed to trip you up and to make you less than what you’re meant to be. You come to realize that God created your body and mind for more than filth, ungodliness and the trash of this world.
