Armor check – Breastplate of Righteousness

Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness . . .
-Ephesians 6:14

In Ephesians 6, the second piece of armor that every believer must have for protection against the enemy is the breastplate of righteousness. In Roman armor, the breastplate was made of bronze and usually covered with the tough hide of an animal.

The breastplate protected the most vital area of the body, the heart. Proverbs 4:23 says, “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life” (KJV).

Guarding our hearts has to do with understanding the righteousness of God. “For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ” (2 Cor. 5:21, NLT). You must rely on Christ’s righteousness as the breastplate that protects your heart from Satan’s constant attacks and accusations against you. .

Satan loves to remind you that you have failed God. But if you have put on the breastplate of God’s righteousness, you can say, “It’s not my righteousness or works that makes God love me or use me; it’s the righteousness that has been given to me through Jesus Christ. Therefore I am righteous in God’s sight.”

THINK ABOUT IT—
How has Satan attacked your heart recently? Declare your righteousness in Christ.

PRAYER FOR TODAY—
Heavenly Father,
I pray for my heart today. Please protect it from the doubts and accusations of the enemy. I know that my hope and my salvation rest in You alone. Thank You. Amen.
