The Power of God’s Grace

“Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of hosts. Who are you, O great mountain? Before Zerubbabel, you shall become a smooth plain, and he shall bring forth the headstone with shouts of grace, grace.” Zechariah 4:6-7 (NKJV)

Some messages are more than sermons. They are life messages, truths that carry the power to change your life when applied. For Zechariah 4, the lesson is simple but profound: God finishes what He starts. Zerubbabel laid the foundation of the temple, and God promised that his hands would also finish it. That promise was not dependent on human might or human power. It was the Spirit of God at work.

How often do we start something in faith—maybe a relationship, a dream, a ministry, a healing—and then we see obstacles? Mountains rise before us, and the temptation is to quit. But the Lord says, “Who are you, O great mountain?” Nothing is too big for God’s Spirit. Mountains do not intimidate Him. What looks impossible to us is already planned for completion by Him.

Zechariah 4 tells us how the work will be accomplished: “with shouts of grace, grace.” Grace is God’s unmerited favor, His power to work beyond what we can do or see. It is His Spirit moving in the midst of our challenges. The Bible mentions grace 125 times and opens sixteen of the twenty-one epistles with it. Grace is not just a nice word; it is the miraculous formula for finishing what has been started.

When life feels slow, when the small beginnings seem insignificant, remember that God is watching. He sees your efforts, your prayers, your faith, and His Spirit is moving to bring completion. The hands that started the work in your life are the same hands that will finish it. No obstacle is too great, no delay too long, and no mountain too high. God is faithful to complete His work. When you face challenges, when the mountain seems too big, lift your voice and proclaim grace. Grace for your family. Grace for your dreams. Grace for your health. Grace for your ministry. God’s Spirit is able, and He will finish what He started.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for the promise that You will finish what You have begun in our lives. Help us to trust Your Spirit rather than leaning on our own strength or understanding. Give us eyes to see Your grace at work, even in small beginnings and quiet moments. Let us hold onto Your favor, believing that every challenge and every obstacle is part of Your plan to bring completion. Strengthen our hands and hearts to keep walking in faith, knowing that the work of our lives is in Your capable hands. In Jesus’ name, amen.
