When the Storm Rages, Trust the Gauges

“The vision is for an appointed time… Though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not delay.” Habakkuk 2:3

Life brings burdens. Just like the prophet Habakkuk, we often find ourselves overwhelmed by the silence of God, the sin around us, and the suffering in our world. In Habakkuk 1, the prophet cries out to God, confused and disheartened. He doesn’t hold back. He says, “How long, Lord, must I call for help, but you do not listen?” Can you relate?

Problems are a part of life, even for believers. Giving your heart to Jesus doesn’t eliminate pain. It just gives you a firm foundation when the storms come. And they will come. You’re either heading into a storm, in the middle of one, or just coming out of one. But here’s the key: when life feels unstable, focus on the reliability of God’s Word. When you can't hear God, read God. Faith grows not in the absence of problems, but in the middle of them.

Like a pilot in a storm who trusts the gauges instead of his feelings, we must trust God's Word over our emotions and circumstances.

When nature rages, focus on the gauges.

In chapter 2, Habakkuk climbs a tower, seeking clarity. God’s answer? “The just shall live by faith.” He doesn’t give an explanation. He gives a command: Live by what you know to be true, not by what you see. God may seem silent, but He is not absent. His promises are still good. His vision for your life still stands. By chapter 3, something amazing happens. Habakkuk starts with a sob but ends with a song. His circumstances haven’t changed, but his perspective has. He chooses praise over panic. That’s what happens when you live by faith.

So today, if you're burdened by silence, sin, or suffering, know that God is still in control. You may not understand what He's doing, but you can trust that He’s doing something. Don’t let the storm shake your foundation. Keep your eyes on the gauges- the promises of God’s Word. Because in God’s time, the vision will speak.
