Introduction:
God knew man would sin, so He sent Jesus to be slain before the foundation of the world. Time and time again, types and shadows of Jesus’ sacrifice show up in the Bible to let the world know that Jesus was coming to save mankind.
Key Scriptures:
John 3:14-15; John 12:32; Numbers 21:8; Galatians 3:13; Genesis 22:12-14; Numbers 19:3-10; Leviticus 16:10; Matthew 27:16-27; Isaiah 1:18; Luke 23:42-43; Ephesians 4:8
Key Points:
- Jesus is the brass serpent. When Jesus hung on the Cross, he became sin itself. When you accept him, you receive healing and eternal life.
- Jesus is the ram caught in the thicket. When Abraham sacrificed the ram that got caught in the thicket, it was symbolic of the crown of thorns that they placed on Jesus’ head before he was sacrificed. He took your curse upon himself.
- Jesus is the red heifer. The spotless red heifers in Numbers 19 were symbols of the spotless sacrifice of Jesus. Just like those red heifers, Jesus sacrifice cleanses you from sin and death.
- Jesus is the goat sacrificed. Jesus was sacrificed so you could be set free. Like the guilty scapegoat, you were set free while Jesus was put to death.
- Jesus is the third cord. Jesus is your High Priest forever. Your sin stained you red, but Jesus’ sacrifice has washed you white as snow.
Final Thoughts:
Jesus was the lamb slain before the foundation of the world. His sacrifice heals you, sets you free, and cleanses you from all your sins. Don’t trample over his blood. Accept him as your Lord and Savior, and you will have eternal life.
