When God Commands A Blessing

“The Lord will command His blessing on you…” Deuteronomy 28:8

God’s desire is to bless, prosper, and increase His people in amazing ways. Deuteronomy 28:8 says, “The Lord will command the blessing on you in your storehouses and in all to which you set your hand, and He will bless you in the land which the Lord your God is giving you.” Living with God’s commanded blessing changes everything. You become a magnet for success and blessings begin to overtake you. Many do not believe that it is God’s will for them to live well and be prosperous but Psalms 35:27 says that “He takes pleasure in the prosperity of His servants.” God told Joshua, “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth…For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” (Joshua 1:8) God wants you to be successful in life!

In Deuteronomy 28, God promises a blessing “on your storehouses.” There are four storehouses talked about in the Bible which can represent four levels of blessing. You can likely find yourself in one of these four levels. There’s the bag, barrel, basket, and barn level.

The bag level is the lowest level. This is seen in Haggai 1:6 which says, “You have sown much, and you bring in little; You eat and you’re not full…you’re clothed but you’re not warm; you earn wages, and put them in a bag with holes.” The bag level is the “not enough” level. As soon as the resources come in, they go right back out. Jesus referred to the bag level in Luke 12:33 when he challenged the wealthy man to give. He said, “Sell what you have and give your alms to the poor and provide bags for yourself that will not wear out. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” When you have a bag mentality your money is gone as soon as you get it and the tighter you try to hold on to it the quicker it falls through the cracks.

The bag mentality is a “mine” mentality. You clench to the little bit that you have because you don’t understand that God’s system is to sow. God wants all his children to be givers. The Word tells us to not wait for favorable conditions or until you are blessed exceedingly to begin to give. Even the servant who was given the least amount of talents was expected to do something with what he had been given. When he buried it, the master was displeased. It takes faith to give at the bag level but be obedient, faithful, and generous wherever you are and God will take you to the next level.
