Made For More
“Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it.” Matthew 10:39
There is a true story about a woman from Biloxi, Mississippi who tried to kill herself. She was 25 years old and she had decided that her life was over. She went to a bridge in Biloxi that was so high that the drop itself could possibly kill her, but if it didn’t she had just made up her mind to drown in the water and die. She jumped off, hit the water and started sinking. What she didn’t know was that there was a man who saw her jump. When he did not see her surface, he jumped into the water to rescue her.
Unfortunately the man did not know how to swim. While the young woman was sinking in the river she heard this poor man who had heroically jumped in to save her splashing around drowning and screaming, “Help! Help!” And so, she swam back up, pulled him out, and gave him mouth to mouth resuscitation over on the side of the bank. Somebody called 911 and they took both of them to the hospital alive. Later a journalist wrote, “That night it wasn’t the man who saved her life, it was purpose that saved her life.”
The young woman was ready to take her life and die, but suddenly purpose was awakened inside of her and right when she was ready to give up, she was motivated with a mission. That mission gave her the power and courage to get up and to do something meaningful like saving another human being. Having a mission saved her life.
Are you living for a purpose or are you simply existing? We have to have a mission in life. God did not create you to work, pay bills, watch television, go to bed, and repeat. You were made for more. You were made to make an impact on the lives of others. Begin to pray and ask God what He wants you to do in this season of your life. You’re never too young or too old to be used by God to do great things. There is always something new waiting for you if you will let God lead you.
