It’s very dangerous when you get a wounded, bitter, or angry spirit toward God or people. When it affects a leader, it affects everyone else. But that doesn’t have to happen with you. God can break cycles in your family. Just because a father goes in the wrong direction doesn’t mean the children have to do the same.

1. Don’t let a privilege become a problem. When you want the blessing of a ministry, you must also take the burden of ministry. Serving God is a great privilege, but it comes with a cost. If you get around complainers and negative people, it’s infectious, and it will infect you. Nothing around you will change, but your heart will change when you choose fools as your companions. Don’t let your mouth become flooded with criticism; decide to thank God for saving you and using you.
2. You are affecting generations by what you do with your Sundays. One man’s offense corrupts generations, but so does one man’s worship. When you raise your hands in worship, you are redeeming your family name for generations.
3. Don’t let serving God become a small thing. Serving in church must never become a small thing to you. Never forget that God has separated you, called you, and brought you near to Him.
4. The world is not flowing with milk and honey. If your friends talk about sin and bondage like it’s better than being in church, you need to make new friends. It’s time to be done with dung and say goodbye to stupid friends. You need a pastor.
5. Have a holy rebellion against rebellion. Just because your family is messed up, doesn’t mean you have to be. Decide to redeem your family name. If your family wants to live crazy, you must separate yourself. You must decide to lead your family, your children, and your grandchildren into the will of God instead.
6. God will write new songs out of your story. Even if your family complained and used their tongue for evil, you can still use yours for praise and thanksgiving. Your family may have been troubled, but you can be still and have a peace that surpasses all understanding. It’s better to be a doorkeeper in the house of God than to dwell in tents of wickedness.

When you praise God, you’re not just praising God for here and now but for the next generations. You may be fighting battles that have affected the generations before you, but your victory will affect the generations after you. Get Jesus in your genetics and redeem your family name! The story about your family is still being written. Refuse to put a period where God is putting a comma.
