You Are Not Behind
We live in a culture that loves a countdown clock. From the time we are small children, life is measured out in neat markers and milestones. Graduate by this age. Build a career by that age. Reach certain financial, creative, or family checkpoints on a linear schedule. And if your life doesn’t fit neatly into the timeline society scripted for you, a quiet, nagging whisper starts to creep in.
It is a heavy, exhausting burden to carry, feeling like you are running a race where the finish line keeps moving, or feeling like you missed the starting gun altogether while everyone else is already halfway around the track. Day after day, connected constantly through glowing screens and seeing only everyone else’s highlight reels, it is remarkably easy to compare our quiet failures with everyone else’s loudest wins. That comparison robs us of our contentment today.
The truth is, you are not behind.
Proverbs 16:9 reminds us that a man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps. If we truly believe in the sovereignty of God, we must also believe that He has us right where we are supposed to be. His timing is never late, and His positioning for our lives is never a mistake.
Finding Fruit in the Quiet Seasons
Does knowing God orders our steps give us permission to sink into apathy or sit back and do nothing? Absolutely not. God is constantly providing rich opportunities for us in personal growth and character shaping.
Are you currently in a quieter season, longing for more movement or a bigger breakthrough? Dig into His Word. There is nothing more fruitful you can do in seasons of waiting. What happens underground during a season of invisible sowing, such as quiet prayers, hidden faithfulness, and daily surrender, is deeply necessary for the harvest that will come later. Pray boldly that the Lord would open the right doors for you, and trust Him enough to continue keeping shut any doors that aren’t His best.
The secret to this life, as Paul teaches us, is finding contentment regardless of our circumstances.
The Remedy of Worry
When we fall into the trap of feeling behind, worry is usually waiting right behind it. We fret over tomorrow, stress over missed deadlines on our self-imposed calendars, and exhaust ourselves trying to control the uncontrollable. But Jesus asks a piercing question in Matthew about worry, reminding us that anxious thoughts cannot add a single hour to our lives. The true remedy for worry is not figuring out every future detail on our own; it is radical, daily trust. When we trade our anxiety for surrender, we step out of the frantic race of comparison and into the peaceful provision of our Father. Watch the message, The Remedy of Worry, here.
Redefining Success
Comparing our lives with everyone around us only stunts our spiritual growth. A flower does not look across the garden, stress over the fact that the flower next to it bloomed a week earlier, or wonder if it’s lagging behind the rest of the meadow. It simply draws water, turns toward the sun, and blooms in its own time.
You are allowed to do the same thing. You are not late. You are not missing out on your destiny.
Release the pressure to catch up to an imaginary, cultural standard. You aren’t running someone else’s race; you are walking the custom-crafted path designed uniquely for you. And right now, in this exact season, you are right on time.
