The Day After The Rapture

The ground did not just shake; it groaned. Under the relentless sun of an ordinary afternoon, the rhythmic thud of massive, gray-skinned pillars vibrated through the soles of those standing in the market. The people looked up from their trading and their marriages just long enough to see the elephants passing by.

Great tusks caught the light, and ears fanned the humid air like sails, yet the people simply stepped aside to let the beasts pass toward that wooden ship on the hill. It was a marvel, certainly, but not enough to make them stop their plans. They were too accustomed to their own rhythms to recognize the miraculous. They saw the signs, they felt the earth tremble, and yet they chose to remain asleep.

This scene from the ancient world mirrors the warning Jesus gave regarding the end of the age:

"People were eating, drinking, marrying, and being given in marriage up to the day Noah entered the ark. Then the flood came and destroyed them all."  Luke 17:27

Today, the "elephants" are walking past us again. The signs of the times are not hidden in corners; they are trampling through our city squares and vibrating through our news feeds. We are witnessing the birthing pains of a world leaning toward the return of Christ. Romans 13:11 urges us to realize the hour has already come for us to wake up from our slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.

In Sunday’s message, we dove deep into the sobering reality of the "Tribulation." Put simply, this refers to a period of unprecedented global distress and divine judgment. Scripture paints a vivid picture of this era in the book of Revelation, describing a world so terrified that even the powerful hide in caves, crying out in Revelation 6:15-17 that the great day of wrath has come. From atmospheric shifts to global instability, the Tribulation represents the final, intense labor of this age.

However, the core of our study was the reassuring promise of the Rapture. The Bible suggests a beautiful "Look Up" moment for the believer. Just as Lot was led out in Genesis 19:1 before the fire fell and Noah was lifted above the flood, 1 Thessalonians 5:9 promises that God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. We aren’t waiting for the world to end; we are waiting for a door to stand open in heaven.

As we prepare for what is ahead, the call from Sunday and the urgency of Romans 13:11 provide our roadmap:

  1. Wake Up: Recognize that a better day is coming. Do not be caught in the darkness, for 1 Thessalonians 5:1-4 reminds us that we are children of the light.
  2. Get Up: Shake off the lethargy of a world that is "business as usual."
  3. Dress Up: Put on the armor of light, prepared for the day.
  4. Look Up: Our hope is not found in the headlines of today, but in the heavens of tomorrow.

Our flesh is prone to wander into the shadows of worry, and the world offers no shortage of chaos to fuel our fears. We often become so entangled in the immediate demands of our current circumstances that we simply ignore the "elephants" being led before our very eyes. We treat the tremors of prophecy like mere background noise to our daily routines. Yet, in the midst of every distraction that vies for our attention, we find an unshakable refuge in the Ark that is in and through Jesus.

When we pivot our hearts to seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, we move from the fragility of our own strength to the fortress of His sovereignty. You can rest in the radical assurance that as you live to please Him, the Architect of eternity assumes the burden of your "everything else." We are not a people looking for a disaster; we are a people looking for a Deliverer. When the world tells you to look around in fear, remember the promise of Sunday: wake up, dress up, and look up, for your redemption is drawing near.
